Silja Matthiesen has been the executive director of the Family Planning Center e.V. since September 2023.

Silja Matthiesen is a sociologist and sexologist. For many years, she served as research coordinator at the Institute for Sexual Research at the UKE, and from 2010 to 2021 she was editor of the Journal of Sexual Research. Since 2025, she has been the editor of “Beiträge zur Sexualforschung.” Her research focuses on adolescent sexuality, the social transformation of sexuality, pregnancy and abortion, as well as gender issues.
